Kerrielee and Kathleen

I arrived in Oz on Friday and was picked up from Melbourne airport by cousin Kerrielee, do you know I am the first English rellie to visit? I find that sooo hard to believe. Anyway the thing that is making me really happy at the moment is I no longer smell of mouldy meat pie and Bovril gravy, HURRAH FOR ME!

This is cousin Kerrilee, also the most hospitable person on the planet. If you look the word 'hospitality' up in the Oxford dic you will find her name and address right there along with Pip and Billy's. She has kept me so busy that bloggingtons will have to be brief I'm afraid, still rushed bloggage is a sign that Adilady is having fun.

What can I say about cousin Kerrilee? Well she is a ballsy bird who calls a spade a shovel. She works in a predominantly male environment and has had to hold her own with the typical Ozzy male over the years. Her job sounds really exciting and involves fire fighting and rescue as well as supporting at the scenes of road traffic accidents. I love hearing her talk about her dad, Uncle Bill (my granny's younger brother). They were really close and he used to take her hiking up into the local hills and mountains which she loves (just like me). I have had a fabuloso time here in Morwell, it is a beautiful part of the world and Kerrilee has been brilliant in showing me around and making me feel at home.
This is Kathleen, Kerrielee's mum, I think being a ballsy bird must run in the family...

I love this photo, this is Kathleen giving  Kerrilee 'the finger' because she is trying to get her to do her exercises lol.

So the first day I was here, Kerrilee drove me out to the Buchan Caves, I have developed a thing for caveage after Vietnam and they were beautiful.

Like the caves in Vietnam the rock is limestone.

The structures and formations are very similar but on a much smaller scale.

A rock river.

I saw my first wild kangas and this one had an ickle baby roo! How cute is that?

The following day we went to Wilson's Prom National Park, it is truly breathtaking and I plan to return and spend longer here when I pick up my campervan for one and do my solitary Adilady 30 day tour. The beach on the photos is called ''Squeaky Beach'' because the sand makes a high pitched squeak when it's walked on, unfortunately it has to be dry but maybe it will work better when I come back in a week or two. Talking of my 30 day road trip, I am very excited about it but hoping it doesn't turn out to be my 40 days in the desert John the Baptist styley lol.

Breaking waves...

When I come back I will go walking in the mountains, I might even do an overnighter for a spot of 'bush bashing' as Kerrilee calls it; an expression which obviously makes me howl.
More wavingtons, feel free to skip...

This is a wild bush wallaby that popped up to say 'hello.'

On my last full day here Kerrielee took me to Walhalla, a small town that built up around a gold mine in 1800 and something but now just caters for tourism.

This is a close up of the white band of quartz rock that is rich in gold.

This is an early drill, they used to call it 'the widow maker' because it could overheat and explode causing instant death. Most miners used to die in their 20s because of the silica dust they breathed in. This changed when water was used to cool the drill bit. The strategy was to prolong the life of the drill bit, a welcome side effect was to prolong the life of the miners, nothing like getting your priorities right!!!

Kerrilee outside the town's Ye Olde Hotel, this is where the stagecoach used to stop.
Ye olde fire engine.
Ye olde shoppe...
with ye olde till.

Ye olde poste office.
We went inside the house, my favourite room was  ye olde kitchen.

Then it rained, the weather here is very British and I have even felt cold for the first time since leaving blighty. This is the view from Thompson's dam.

Tomorrow I leave Morwell and I will be sad to say goodbye to Kerrielee. Still, I will be seeing her again in a couple of years time when she comes to stay with me in my beamed cottage for one. I will have a job by then and will welcome the opportunity to return the hospitality. Tomorrow I'm off to Melbourne for my first couch surfing experience, I have given Kerrilee the name, address and phone number of my host just in case he turns out to be a nutter lol.  Lots of love to everybody, goodnight from Oz and over and out xxx
