Had an absolutely rubbish night's sleep, air con loud, plumbing loud, teenage roomies surprisingly quiet. Contrary to all ex travellers' tales I have not met any new friends so have spent the day on my lonesome, dipping my big toe into the deep waters of daring and excitement.
First challenge was to board the water taxi to the Grand Palace, Bangkok's biggest tourist attraction. Got lost finding the pier and ripped off by a bogus boat so not a flying start. Anyway when disembarking I headed straight for the palace bought my ticket and spent a happy hour or two exploring and taking pics. As a self confessed Luddite I am mightily impressed that I have managed to download them and I have to tell you about the largest reclining Buddha in the whole wide world. OMG, it's massive!!!! Photos 2, 3 and 4 are head, legs and feet and 5 is soles of feet... How the fook they got that bad boy in the temple I will never know (46m long and 15m high). I also got to see the largest collection of Buddhas in one place (photo 6). I lost count at about a zillion.
After leaving the Grand Palace I realised that it wasn't the Grand Palace after all lol. Wat Pho is just a really big temple visible from the pier and I had jumped to a reasonable but very wrong conclusion. Still, guide book (read retrospectively) prefers Wat Pho (less rammed). So hurrah for me...
Ate street food, feeling fine, hurrah for me again. Off to get ready for beers with Dave's mate Mike, Adi Lady over and out.
