Yesterday I got up at 4.30am to see the sunrise over Angkor Wat. Transport was provided by Temple tuk tuk driven by the nicest man on the planet called Ra (man not planet lol).
I was going to insert his picture here for you to see but have just realised I have deleted all my photos from my whole time here in Siem Reap!!!! Gutted does not even cover it... As a self confessed Luddite, Bangkok Mike helped me download an app that allows me to transfer pics from camera to my nexus 7 tablet, of course he showed me how to do it but could Adi lady remember properly? Could she bollocks. I managed in a fashion but was under the impression once they were stored in my gallery they could be deleted from downloads and I wiped my camera this morning. Make no sense to you? Well welcome to my fooking world!!!!! The only pics I have left are the ones on my blog, so I guess that is at least something. From now on no more deletingtons until I next see Bangkok Mike.
So will be a short blog today as the main thing was the photos, I have managed to save a couple from an e mail I sent...
Saw a disappointing sunrise as there were no reds, golds and oranges; just dark followed by light (no photos). Then some more temples that were further out. Architecturally not as impressive but I enjoyed them as much, fewer crowds meant they seemed somehow more real giving a better sense of time and history (again no photos).
Ra then stopped off so I could get breakfast. The tourist restaurant was closed (too early) so he took me to a local place. There was only one choice which was noodle soup, to be honest it was a bit minging with bits of unidentified offal and scrotty meat floating around but like any good guest I ate it all up (no photos! I am most gutted about these ones as I was a privileged guest, my presence being highly unusual. Also had a great shot of toothless old lady...)
After breakfast Ra took me to the mountain for no extra charge, I think he felt sorry for me as I have no friends and he too had to suffer Kelly the previous day. One photo saved from an e mail and a few others that I will include at the end. It took 30 minutes to get to the top, so a mountain parading as a hillock, bloody cheek.
Got dropped off at the Manderlay and grabbed my bikini to spend the afternoon at a nearby pool; thought it would be a good way to meet some folk but the place was deserted. Came back at teatime feeling very bluesome indeed then was Skyped by Ruth, Dave and Kate which made me feel less lonely xxx
Today has been a bit of a none day. Spent the morning booking accommodation, tickets etc for trip to Phnom Penh then headed by moto for the National Angkor Museum. Are museums a bit dullsville or is it just me? It was billed as the top attraction in Siem Reap so glad I'm moving on. I wanted to learn more about why the temples were built but Hinduism and Buddhism are too complicated for a simpleton like me to understand. I can cope with God the Father, Son and Holy Ghost but there are hundreds of Hindu gods all with a miriad of different avatars and forms and Buddhism has morphed so many times I lost count... Only interesting fact I can remember: before India's influence in Cambodia (then called Ra-Nam) the ancient Khmer kings were called the mountain Kings, they believed the mountains had mystical powers and worshipped them, now that's my kind of religion.
So that's me done and it's the longest bloggintons ever. A sign of lost photos and too much time on my hands (no mates). Also, I've been thinking about Ra which puts my lost photos/no mates situation into perspective. He has a son with cerebral palsy and struggles to buy the medicine... One of his passengers ended up being a Swiss millionaire who became his benefactor. He bought him a brand new tuk tuk (it has his name and a Swiss flag on the back) and sometimes helps with medical bills; it does pay to be the nicest guy on the planet after all.
Next installment from Phnom Penh where I might meet some normal people. Miss you all terribly, Adi lady over and out xxx
