After the excitement of raftingtons Kirstypops and I camped next to this beautiful lake with our own private beach. The sky was breathtaking...
We are now on the road and I am so desperate for dumpages it is making me very grumpsville indeed. I have decided to catch up on bloggingtons to act as a diversion, the blogoid app is fantastico.
Saturday was spent in Rotarura being wowed by the geothermal wonderland. Our tour guide was David, an old grumpy bastard who spent the day bollocking people for being on time, we were supposed to be early (obviously).
First stop was the Lady Knox's Geyser, it erupts every 32 to 76 hours but the local park ranger induces it by sticking soap suds down it at 10.15am everyday, frigging cheatage or what?
Next was Wai-O-Tapu, the official thermal wonderland. I fooking loved it and can die happy as I have now seen bubbling mud! I will try and give you brief facts about the things I remember; the pictures speak for themselves so enjoy:D
This is 'Devil's Ink Pot', the colour is due to small amounts of crude oil and graphite brought to the surface by the water forcing it's way up.
My favourite geothermal phenomena, 'Artist's Palette.' The vibrant colours are caused by different minerals; I could bore you with the chemistry but I won't.
The panoramic view, in the distance the geothermal power station can be seen.
I loved this lake, it's called 'Devil's Bath.' Apparently it changes colour but when we saw it the colour was vibrant pea soupage, dragon green.
And a steamywindows KP.
Thank the fook, a toilet stop. I thought I was rupturing until I remembered the beetroot soup that was last night's dinner (too much information??)
So back to bloggingtons, quick stop to see the bubbling muds fields, I also have a video clip but you've guessed it, Luddite Adilady:(
Then final destination was a wander around the Mount Hazard Trail.
Panoramic view.
This lake sits in Southern Crater.
Hot springingtons.
The indigenous ferns, they are my new tree obsession.
I went off piste to see the 'Inferno Crater' and get some stunning views. It was worth the hike even though signage warned proper footwear was necessary and I was sporting flip flops. Piece of cake so I guess it was just to deter ambulance chasers.
Below, the stunning turquoise of inferno crater's lake, jewel of Waimangu.
Rift Valley Panorama, line of craters.
Eastern Valley Panorama.
The Black Crater.
And finally view of the Lower Rift Valley.
Then it was back to the main walkway to see 'Marble Terrace and Butress'
Finishing with some bird life on the lake just for daddio. I know how much you love birdages Michael, and not just the feathered kind lol:D
We had such a wonderful time in Rotorua, despite the stench of eggy farts. Next installment I will tell you all about Tongariro and Mount Doom. Much love, Adilady and KP are over and out xxxx
