Bounty and Kuata

Bula! And greetings from Fiji -La Land! I'm still on Fiji time peeps, I think I am now in the 80's :D. Apologies for lack of bloggingtons, I am not neglecting you my lovely friends and famille but WiFi is as rare as rocking horse shite in the South Pacific. Also this bloggage will be thrown together and badly written as I only have an hour:(

Zero to report. I spent two days on Bounty Island which was Sleepsville meets Dozytown. I did meet up with two Belgium girls from Mana to hang out with and also a crazy scouse bird called Shaz. Shaz was a breath of fresh air, she was totally potty mouthed and a monster beer drinker. In the first 5 minutes she had told me all about her bald, tattooed, ex con boyfriend. He has 11 kids and started the Strangeways riots all those years ago (nice). Watch out Psycho Bird, I'm moving in the underworld now lol;)

So I spent two days lying in the sun, reading bookage and walking around the island which took 15 minutes to circumnavigate. Here are the photos...

Coral beaches look like shrunken human remains to me and could well be considering the history of cannabilism found here in Fiji-La...

A hermit crab

A bootiful flutterby

And a breath taking bainrow:D

After two days of slowly slipping into a coma on Bounty, I hopped onto a ferry to the island of Kuata to find I was the only guest!!!! Later on I was joined by a 19 year old Norwegian called Magnus and so it was just the two of us for dinner. Very uncomfortable indeedy, I don't think he could get past the fact I am older than his mother. I totally went into teacher mode, asking questions about studying, ambitions etc. I'm like, WTF!!!! Beam me up Scotty! Anyway some of the locals were singing tunes and drinking kava (a local brew made from the powdered kava root). It's totally soporific and makes your tongue tingle. Even Magnus lightened up and sang us a Norwegian rock song entitled 'A Love Song to Pamela Anderson.' I was invited to the village school's concert and prize giving which was fantastic and a highlight of my trip.

My new friends lent me a traditional Fijian dress, this is me with Saru
And me with Lucy.

Here are some pictures of the kiddywinks in tradional dress

And doing a tradional Fijian dance. I also have a video of the boys doing the haka but Luddite lady here can't upload:(

How cute is he?

And the proud mums.

I got to sit with the guest speaker who was an important headteacher from the main land. He spoke about education being the catalyst for change and progress 'but not at the expense of the Fijian culture.'

'A farmer's son can be a doctor, a labourer's daughter can be a teacher and a beggar's child can be a president'.

All very rousing. Afterwards I had dinner with Lucy's family, the sex god on the right is her hubby Wogan (lucky cow!)

The following day I went to a fundraiser with Lucy in the village, they were collecting money to rebuild the village hall which had been destroyed in a hurricane several years ago. I sat drinking kava with the old boys, Levi told me they had been promised funds from the government but it never materialised. They need 5000 Fiji dollars, about 1500 quid. I'm thinking when I get a job sorted I'll just send them a cheque.

In the afternoon I hiked up this big rock with Dimitri (new guest from Russia) and our guide Joe. The two young whippersnappers ran up leaving me lagging behind, still I'm not doing bad for an old bird:D

I took loads of photos just for Nicky T but can't upload 'em due to crappy internet access. Here are the highlights.

And to finish off? A wistful sunset.

When I left to go to my next island, Lucy and Wogan came from the village to give me a gift, I was sooo touched it brought a tear to my eye. Times up lovely people so I must bid you farewell xxx
