It is rainy season in Elephant Land and yesterday it poured all morning. I can't get dry and every nook and cranny is a breeding ground for fungus. Malaria tablets can cause thrush so of course that decided to say hello last night; along with insect nibbles I'm very itchy and scratchy indeed:(
Still the hard grafting takes my mind off my moaningtons... Our first chore was the elephant kitchen. First job scrubbing fruit.
Followed by peeling, me hates peelingtons.
This picture makes me howl. I have definite cleavage envy and next to Carey I look like a Lilyputian!
I spent all lunch time trying to get the perfect butterfly shot, didn't quite pull it off. What do you think?
The afternoon was not good. We spent several hours potting seedlings into elephant crap.
This is the pile of shit...
And here are the seedlings. No gloves so I am still scraping shit from underneath my nails:(
We haven't really spent much time with the hephalumps yet and feel this week has been a tad 'mis-sold'. Still I am having fun as I have met some great people to hang out with.
After choringtons we had an inspirational talk from a lady called Jodie. She came as a volunteer 11 years ago and never left. She spends all her time observing the elephants and knows all their names, personalities, habits and dramas. Lights out 9.30.
