Today several of us hired bikes to explore some of the lesser temples, our G adventure guide Matt was going to be our leader. We didn't get off to a great start, we have a 75 year old American called Carole in our group who is a pain in the ass. She never shuts up, monopolises the guides and is the centre of the universe. She'll say 'Gee Matt I really wanna buy some Burmese rubies' and the bus will screech to a halt, redirect and find the nearest shop, even if it's not on the itinerary!
Anyway, Carole wanted to join us for the bike ride although it was crystal clear to anybody who could see that when she saddled up she was totally incapable. So we were all waiting around watching her wobble and do that walking the bike forward with your feet thing for about half an hour and I say 'Gee Matt, how do you think Carole is doing?' He of course has to admit very badly indeed 'but what can I do? She's adamant she wants to ride!'
Err say 'Carole honey, it's not really working out and you are spoiling it for everybody else.' I did offer to have a word, as did Freddie...
Freddie is a very funny, handsome, gay, Italian guy who works for Gucci. He hates pagodas which begs the question 'what the fook you doing in Myanmar man?' This is him at the end of yesterday, all pagodaed out lol.
Anyways, the solution to the Carole problem was to eventually shove her in a pony and trap. She did comment on the fact she was glad we hadn't had to wait long, to which Adi lady replied 'Carole honey, we sooo did' to the amusement of everybody in earshot.
Still the day got better and this hidden yet giant reclining Buddha managed to lift my spirits. I'm only gonna share a few photos as you had so many yesterday...
We went to a Hindu temple filled with exquisite carvings.
Stupid with stupa...
And if you want to know what made me laugh out loud yesterday, see the Buddha with attitude below.
In the evening we went to a puppet show and ate overpriced food, not really my thing.
And tomorrow we are off to the mountains in Kalaw for trekking and villages, can't wait. Lots of love to everybody back in blighty, Adi lady over and out xxxx
Bloody Carole eh!! Good job I wasn't there - especially if I was in the bad mood I was in during Chiang Mai!! Carole would have been on the floor with shoe prints on her!!
