Wanaka

Why did I spend 3 whole days in Wanaka? Well it was rather lovely and I did it for zero poundage. Nobody ever collected the campage fees from Abbotstown campsite and illegal hot showers were easily accessed courtesy of the lapsed security arrangements at the YHA. Double hurrah for me:D

Wednesday was cloudy so I did a low level walk to avoid 'mistification.' The Rob Roy Glacier Track went up river, which was a bit of a climb. After a couple of hours I reached the lower viewpoint and was rewarded with clear sight of a bone fide glacier.

They really are blue!!!

Higher viewpoint was a further 40 minutes upstream, I'm sooo glad I made the effort as to be honest, I'd been feeling a little lacklustre all day.

This strata caught my attention on the way down.

As did this flutterby.

Again, photos cannot and do not do justice to the majestic ice and the myriad waterfalls born from meltwater. Yet again my breath was taken away.

Thursday I climbed Roy's Peak, which is a mountain and not a bloke ha ha. It was really steep and extremely hot but the views were worth it. If you are bored of mootons look away now.

Another flutterby...

And another yellow head, not so rare after all (unless it's an imposter or misidentification).

Friday was spent reading bookage and snoozing on the shores of Lake Wanaka. What pearls of wisdom can I share with you today? Well algorithms are a lot more reliable at making long term predictions than experts. Extensive research has been done over a long period of time that compares the two and experts are correct 50% of the time, which equates to random guesses. Interestingly they are less likely to get it right within their own field, which is worse than random. Psychologists put this down to the 'over confidence effect.' Before we start putting all our faith in statistics, they are not so reliable either; just more accurate than flakey human beings.

So nears and dears we just need to accept the uncertainty in this world, go with the flow and adopt a healthy lack of fear for the unknown. Who can tell? It might turn out better than you think:D

I haven't had a proper conversation since I left Beth and Craig at the end of the Routeburn Track and have started talking to myself:( Still, I am doing the 2 day Copland Track over the weekend so who knows who I may meet????

I'm really very excited about seeing you all so soon lovelies. Take care and lots of love. Night, night and over and out xxxxx
